About
If you're wandering through the charming streets of Edinburgh, make sure to add Giulianos to your culinary itinerary. Nestled at 18-19 Union Pl, this delightful Italian restaurant has quickly garnered a reputation for its exceptional cuisine and warm ambiance, making it a favorite among both locals and visitors alike.
From the moment you step inside Giulianos, you are greeted with a friendly smile and an atmosphere that feels reminiscent of a welcoming home. Multiple diners have praised the attentive staff, noting their ability to create a comfortable dining experience that feels both personal and professional. But it is the food that truly steals the show here.
The reviews highlight the standout dish—the chicken mushroom pasta in cream sauce—which has entranced palates with its perfect balance of flavors. Mallory Hillstrom raves about its tender chicken and a sauce that avoids the pitfalls of being overly rich. This dish is just one example of how Giulianos excels in crafting meals that delight without overwhelming the senses.
Beyond pasta, the focaccia served here has been described as some of the best ever tasted, while the fresh mozzarella and irresistible tiramisu have left patrons in awe. If you have a modest appetite, you’ll be thrilled to discover the option for “baby” portions, ensuring that no one leaves with an unfulfilled stomach.
The overall dining experience is further enhanced by a selection of excellent desserts that consistently deserve high praise, as Fiona Banham noted in her review. Each dish is not only a feast for the palate but also a genuinely enjoyable culinary adventure that combines traditional Italian flavors with a touch of Scottish hospitality.
In summary, Giulianos is not just a restaurant; it’s a gastronomic treasure waiting to be discovered. With its top-notch service, delectable dishes, and inviting atmosphere, it’s no wonder that diners are eager to return. Whether it's lunch, dinner, or a delightful dessert break, make Giulianos a priority on your next culinary exploration of Edinburgh.
“ To go back to the same restaurant TWICE, in a city that has countless food offerings, when you’re only here for two weeks on vacation is the highest compliment that I can give. The food here is PHENOMENAL. I had the chicken mushroom pasta in cream sauce both times: the flavor was lovely without being too rich or overbearing and the chicken was beyond tender. Their focaccia is some of the best I’ve ever had in my life. Their mozzarella is fresh and creamy. I’m not going to bother telling you how good the tiramisu is, it’s not possible to put into words. The staff are also so kind and friendly! It felt like eating at home, with family. Side note for my small appetite girls ... you can order “baby” portions! I did not know this but was politely informed when I couldn’t finish their VERY generous portions! ”
“ What a treasure of a restaurant!! We had the most wonderful time here - such lovely, attentive staff, and the food was honestly out of this world (especially the AMAZING desserts!). We could not have asked for more, and all at a very reasonable price. This is such a special place, and we can’t wait to come back very soon! ”
“ 1st time here, what a great place to eat. We had lunch, and the food was awesome, taste, flavour, and quality. The staff are very friendly, knowledgeable and happy. We had a great lunch in a great restaurant. Definitely will go back when visiting Edinburgh ”
“ We had a fabulous evening first class service friendly and helpful staff excellent food. ”
“ This is an excellent Italian restaurant with a traditional Scottish feel. It is excellent! The food is excellent, tasty, and there is plenty of it. The steak is super. The fish is great, the drinks are fine. The service is attentive, and plates are cleared quickly. The staff/waiters leave you alone and appear when you need them. That's so good and professional. On the way out I see the staff eating their dinnwr which is the same food that you are eating, that shows how good tasty and trustworthy the kitchen is. It is very easy to find as it is well located. I enjoyed this restaurant and would say it is one of the very best aitalian restaurants in Edinburgh that i have used. I highly recommend it. The owner is intimately involved in the restaurant, the dishes the service woth the customers. I was fortunate to meet the owner and have attached a photo. These guys are brilliant i 100% recommend them and would eat here again, and again. I recommend this restaurant ”
“ This place was very good. Food came out quickly and was tasty. But if you only try one thing here you HAVE to get the torta fantastica dessert. It is delicious. Such great flavors. My friend and I each got one, and said at almost the exact same time, “I think this is the best dessert I’ve ever had.” I would go back just for this. ”
“ If you want an authentic Italian try Giulianos as the food was delicious and tasty and the staff were very friendly and helpful. The layout of the restaurant and pictures make it with the atmosphere for the Italian feel with the staff in red Scottish theme waistcoats. Will definitely be back. ”
“ We entered the restaurant without a reservation and were quickly shown to a table. The restaurant was packed, as the Moulin Rouge musical was playing in the immediate vicinity. The four of us were served quickly, the food was very tasty and the portion sizes were normal. The restaurant doesn't give the impression of being that big from the street ... but the place is quite long. Conclusion: the price-performance ratio is totally fair, you can eat well here, but at prime time it has more the character of a cafeteria due to the noise level ”
